Description

Stormy Gray anodized aluminum jump rings, wound from 16 SWG wire at 7/32 inch inner diameter.

The color is anodized into the surface of the aluminum rather than painted onto it, so closing a ring with pliers will not chip it back to bare metal.

These rings run an aspect ratio of 3.5 — inner diameter divided by wire thickness. The tight European 4-in-1 range. This is what people mean by a proper maille sheet: the weave sits dense, holds its shape, and drapes without gaping.

Sixteen gauge is the general-purpose armor wire: strong enough to wear all day, still closable by hand without bench tools. Most wearable shirts and coifs are built on it.

This is the size where the gauge confusion bites hardest. At 16 SWG the wire measures 0.063 inch and the ratio lands near 3.5, the tight European 4-in-1 sweet spot. A ring sold as 16 AWG at the same inner diameter is thinner wire and weaves visibly looser, so the two are not interchangeable inside one project.
