Description
Bright aluminum jump rings in 18 SWG wire at 1/4 inch inner diameter, left uncolored.
Bright aluminum is the natural mill finish. It is the usual base people weave against anodized colors when they want the pattern to carry the design instead of the palette.
These rings run an aspect ratio of 5.3 — inner diameter divided by wire thickness. An open ratio. Byzantine, box chain, Japanese weaves and full Persian all want rings around here, and it is a common choice for hanging scales.
Eighteen gauge is the crossover wire. Light enough for jewelry work and for hanging scales, stout enough for costume panels that will see real use.
The pack runs approximately 6,400 rings. At two rings per scale plus a ten percent spare buffer, that carries roughly 2,909 scales of scalemail.
Aluminum weighs roughly a third of what steel does ring for ring, which is why full shirts and long panels get built in it rather than in steel.
