Description
Bright aluminum jump rings in 14 SWG wire at 3/8 inch inner diameter, left uncolored.
Bright aluminum is the natural mill finish. It is the usual base people weave against anodized colors when they want the pattern to carry the design instead of the palette.
These rings run an aspect ratio of 4.8 — inner diameter divided by wire thickness. A comfortable all-round ratio. Open enough to weave quickly by hand, tight enough to hold European 4-in-1, and the usual home for Byzantine and half Persian chain.
Fourteen gauge is the heaviest wire in the rack. It holds its shape under its own weight, which is what armor panels and hauberk repairs need, and it wants a firm grip with two pairs of pliers to close flush.
The pack runs approximately 1,450 rings. At two rings per scale plus a ten percent spare buffer, that carries roughly 659 scales of scalemail.
Aluminum weighs roughly a third of what steel does ring for ring, which is why full shirts and long panels get built in it rather than in steel.
